Health & Safety in Roofing

HSG331, the HSE’s ‘Health & Safety in roof work’ publication, tells us that roofers’ account for 24% of all workers who are killed in falls from height while at work. Falls through rooflights and other fragile materials such as asbestos cement roofing sheets account for more of these deaths than any other single cause. In addition, there are numerous serious injuries which often result in permanent disabilities.

Prior to the early 1990s, these materials were manufactured and marketed as fragile, as it was not a requirement back then that they needed to be non-fragile. Accidents occur from the simplest repairs up to complete refurbishment work and therefore health & safety is a vital part of any RoofTech project.

RoofTech are aware of the need to be competitive in today’s market but are firm believers that safety must not be compromised for cost reasons. It is because of this attitude that we continue to achieve health & safety accreditations from the main recognised bodies in our industry.
